Sarah Beeny documentary shows her support for LPT
Broadcaster's video diary reveals her life with breast cancer
A documentary by Sarah Beeny focussing on her life with cancer will be shown on Channel 4 later this month when it will feature a special mention for The Little Princess Trust.
Sarah was diagnosed with breast cancer in August 2022, 40 years after her mother died of the same disease.
In a deeply personal documentary, Sarah explores the past, present and future of breast cancer treatment in the UK, with filming starting on her very first day of treatment - three weeks after her initial diagnosis.
The eight months of filming also feature interviews with Sarah’s husband Graham Swift and their four children to give a perspective of what a family goes through when a relative undergoes cancer treatment.
One scene in the documentary shows Sarah returning home from her first chemotherapy appointment.
At that moment, she decides she isn't going to wait for her hair to fall out, she's going to beat the chemo to it and chop off her long locks.
She enlists her four boys in a plan to carefully cut her hair so she can donate it to The Little Princess Trust to help our free wig provision service.
It turns out to be a joyous moment as Sarah feels empowered – even if husband Graham does insist on singing tunes from Les Miserables!
The documentary also features interviews with a professor talking about the latest scientific advances in breast cancer surgery and what cancer treatment might look like in the future.
Sarah is now on the road to recovery and, while it's not a full 'all clear' and she will be on drugs for many years to come, she considers this the end point in her treatment and is determined to draw a line under a difficult eight months.
Sarah Beeny: Breast Cancer, My Family and Me airs at 9pm on Monday, June 12 on Channel 4.
