Traitors star Olivia Dean says wig saved her self-esteem

Contestant from reality TV series was helped by The Little Princess Trust

One of the stars from this year’s series of Traitors has praised The Little Princess Trust.

Olivia Dean was aged 12 when she was diagnosed with retinoblastoma, a type of eye cancer.

She underwent gruelling chemotherapy for three weeks, but told the Daily Telegraph that the worst thing about her treatment was losing her hair.

"I knew it was going to happen, it came out of my short brown bob in clumps, when I brushed or washed it,” she added.

“The kids at school were horrible, calling me a boy and making fun of my bald patches.

“I was gifted a beautiful wig from The Little Princess Trust that saved my self-esteem, and that my mum could never have afforded herself.”

Olivia, who was voted off the hit BBC series this week, lost hair from all over her body, including her legs, eyebrows, eyelashes and armpits, while she underwent chemotherapy.

Doctors also had to remove her eye when the cancer began to grow back and she went on to have a prosthetic eye designed for her at Moorfields Eye Hospital in London.

Last year she shared the news with her Instagram followers that she had finally been discharged to her local hospital for regular check-ups after the 26-year-old was given another clean bill of health by medical staff in the capital.
